I received a commission from L’Instant Donné for a piece aimed at "creating opportunities to engage with contemporary music." The theme of the concert was "Classical = Contemporary," and it was expected to attract a diverse audience, ranging from professional musicians to local families.

Each composer in the program chose a piece that served as their inspiration. I settled on a short work by Schubert—one with distinctive rhythms and a playful character.

Considering the audience, I took care to ensure that the original form of the piece would be recognizable at least once. At the same time, I wanted to create something clear and engaging enough to be enjoyable even for those unfamiliar with the source material. As suggested by the title Metamorphosis, I took small fragments of the original melody and rhythm, expanding or distorting them in various ways.

The piece begins in a way that gradually reveals its musical shape, ultimately landing far from the original composition. However, even as the pitches and rhythms change, I aimed to create an effect where the original still resonates in the audience’s minds.
